I was inspired to play hockey after seeing a lot of international players. Joseph Philips (called `Joe`) who was staying opposite my house was my major source of inspiration. I used to practice at the ammunition factory ground in Pune. Later, I got a job in the ammunition factory. I played my first Junior National in 1973 in Bhopal. I have played 4-5 nationals from the ammunition factory representing Team Maharashtra.
I started Hockey Umpiring in 1980s and have been awarded the best umpire couple of times.
I left the ammunition factory in 1992 and joined Priyadarshini club as a hockey coach. We took the club to another level. Today, it is one of the best clubs in Pune. Many boys from the club are coaching themselves and have taken up government jobs.
I also work as a tournament director for various, state level and national level matches.
